A “Trough” is defined as a long, narrow open container for animals to eat or drink out of.
Why do our Politicians keep dragging us into Wars paid for by our tax money? Why is War always an acceptable budget expenditure for our Congressional Representatives and Senators when most of us can barely pay our real estate taxes, health insurance and daily living expenses?
The answer is simple. “Dark Money”. Our Politicians are like Pigs at a Trough.
FACT: Political Donors (translated: Lobbies) bankroll our President, Senators and Representatives and they dance to their tune.
The United States Supreme Court prepared the roadway in their decision, Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission (558 US 310) of January 2010.
In that case, the Supreme Court held – in a 5-4 decision – that “political spending” constitutes “protected speech” under the First Amendment of the US Constitution. It further held that the Federal Government cannot “restrict” such spending based on the “speakers” (ie. donators) identity.
Legally, under the US Constitution, donating = speaking. Donating money is equivalent to speaking words. And words are protected Free Speech. Therefore, giving money is protected Free Speech.
Got it?
Whether the donator is a corporation, a “Non-Government Organization / NGO” a lobby for a particular Religion, Race, Country or business, a “Think Tank” or Foundation – restricting the amount of money a donator can give is a “suppression” of Free Speech – hence, verboten under the US Constitution.
THE LAW: A fictional creation of business law, a corporation (such as a Lobby) has Free Speech rights under the First Amendment of the US Constitution. And the mere Act of that corporation writing checks to a politician is protected Free Speech under the Constitution.
People exercise their Free Speech by giving money to Politicians and Corporations also exercise their Free Speech by giving money to Politicians.
How much money?
The amounts can be “Structured” into Millions. And when “Donors” give money – they want something back. Once politicians take the money – they gotta’ dance.
Want War in the Middle East? The fix is in. Our President has just stepped in a big steaming turd with both feet. His Masters have spoken. This WAR is happening right now. Soon body-bags will be coming home. His reasons? Garbled nonsense, none of which rings true. Iran is an “immanent threat” to the USA? Really? In what parallel universe?
Ever since the Citizen’s United Supreme Court decision approved unrestricted corporate donations to political campaigns as Constitutionally protected “Free Speech” – the flood gates are open. Tons of “Dark Money” from hundreds of unidentified, vague and nebulous profit and non-profit corporations is destroying our Republic from within. Even pharmaceutical and Tech / AI companies are getting into the act.
Is this Democracy?
Big-bucks monetary “Free Speech” donations are warping the United States of America in ways the Founding Fathers never anticipated. The Supreme Court of the United States has legitimized rapacious political greed. It’s time for them to correct their mistake and rescind Citizen’s United.
