The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend
It’s 11:00 PM Eastern Daylight Time in the United States. Heinlein’s combined Den-TV room overlooking his backyard in Warren, NJ is illuminated by the steady blue glow of his wall TV awaiting an encrypted signal from Cyprus. It’s basically a ZOOM call BUT insanely secure and bouncing off so many randomized satellites that even the NSA won’t be able to make heads or tails out of the signal.
Finally, there’s a flicker. A chaotic blotch of pixelations slowly congeals into an image – and bang! There’s Simon Magus, smiling broadly for the camera. He’s dressed in a traditional white Egyptian cotton caftan, looking for all the world like an oriental potentiate.
“Hello, my dear friends. From the onset, I must tell you how completely an utterly I miss you both. Even Longinus – seated to the right of me here – has commented how odd it is that “The Two Cops” are not in our travelling magic show.
I have information, updates and a guest – who will address you first. His name is Alois Borchert, MD. He’s probably the most learned and erudite soul on God’s Earth on the topic of Vampyres. We sometimes humorously refer to him as “Van Helsing”. I will now turn over the floor to him – Doctor, if you please….”
The ZOOM camera pans to Dr. Alois Borchert seated in front of a magnificently carved desk. Behind him is a glass wall looking out over gleaming white sand and a beautiful azure-blue Mediterranean Sea. Tankers and other boats can be seen in the distance lending a serene ambiance to this ZOOM forum. Dr. Borchert is about sixty years of age – gray hair, with wire-rimmed spectacles and a multi-day beard stubble. He’s in a rumpled, white cotton suit that makes him resemble a character in an Indiana Jones movie. He clears his throat and commences his address. His English is precise – melodious, actually – and obviously honed to perfection at Oxford or Cambridge.
“Hello, Dear friends in America and Saint Petersburg. I am Dr. Alois Borchert. I’m a Medical Doctor with a particularized practice – Blood Diseases related to Vampyrism and Porphyria. I am probably the ranking expert in the field – which I say with no false modesty.
Let us recap what we know about Vampyres, shall we? Two main points:
First: There are Vampyres created and sent to Earth by Demonic powers. They are living biological entities. We call them Archons. And there are Vampyres created by Archons. They are infected humans whose DNA has been biologically transformed and corrupted beyond repair. We call them Proles. They BOTH suffer from severe HEME deficiency, requiring Red Blood Cells from human beings to survive. Now more than ever, as I will explain.
Second: Why do Vampyres suck human blood? Because they are HEME deficient. Their Red Blood Cells cannot deliver enough oxygen because their Red Blood Cells have insufficient HEME.
Vampyres are living entities – and they can be killed. They are in generally poor physical condition because of the random and chaotic quality of human blood that they swallow. They are in a constant struggle to survive and hunt new quantities of human blood to sustain themselves. Eons ago – when human blood was vital and robust, not poisoned by medicines and venereal diseases – Vampyres devoted significant time and effort to educating themselves, trying to better understand their human prey. Today things are different. Every minute of every day is directed towards acquiring and consuming Human Blood. Vampyres are now slaves to their affliction. There is nothing else in their world except the human Red Blood Cells that they crave. Their mantra is “The Blood is the Life”.
Forgive me if I cover information that you’ve already familiarized yourselves with – however, in the interests of completeness, I will cut no corners here today.
In the late twentieth century, scientists and medical doctors discovered that Viral Erythro Proto Porphyria or VEPP caused Vampyrism. Our vernacular name for it is “Vampire Disease“. Pathetic humans cursed with this affliction – Proles – can be found in poor neighborhoods, ghettos and shantytowns across the continents. Sometimes the disease passes on through procreation to offspring. Ofttimes the VEPP in humans metastasizes into a vicious Turbo-Hybridized Blood Cancer that is always fatal.
CRITICAL FACT: Viral Erythro Proto Porphyria (VEPP) originates with Archons – they infect humans with it. It is not a disease that occurs naturally or without the intervention of Archons. These Demons inflict it upon humanity. Archon HEME is genetically defective. It will naturally degrade and sicken – triggering disease (VEPP) that they pass along to their human foodstuffs. Archons who reproduce with female Archons sire offspring infected with VEPP. Humans get VEPP by being bitten by an Archon – we call them Proles. A Human bitten by a VEPP infected Human – a Prole – turns Vampyre for a finite time period – then dies. Sometimes genetically robust Human Proles can resist death for unusual numbers of years – we call then Kagans.
Humans infected with Viral Erythro-Proto Porphyria (VEPP) – Proles – sometimes bear children afflicted with Congenital Erythro Poietic Porphyria (CEPP). From birth, this disease results in widespread infant mortality, fetal blindness in sunlight, severe Ultra-Violet (UV) light reactivity (such as instantaneous blistering and actual smoking of the skin), black urine and rust-brown teeth that glowed in the dark. Spontaneous eruption of skin lesions and burning actually occurs. These children’s epidermis can literally “cook” itself off their bones in the presence of an Ultra-Violet (UV) light source – like the Sun. Human Prole children with advanced cases of CEPP satisfy their HEME deficiencies by sucking the blood of other humans. They usually form criminal gangs for this purpose.
CRITICAL FACT: All Vampyres suffer from some form of Viral Erythro Proto Porphyria (VEPP). They infect their human victims through viruses in their saliva. We have tested their blood, saliva and remains – thanks to Simon Magus we always have a bumper crop of Demon DNA detritus and fluids to analyze. We know their affliction quite well.
These diseases manifest in Human Beings when a Human is attacked by an Archon Vampyre or – in the case of Proles – through defective genetic DNA they get from their infected mother or a bite from an Archon. All Porphyria diseases prevent a human body from converting Porphyrins into critical proteins. What are Porphyrins? They are naturally occurring organic compounds in the human body that serve as essential building blocks for HEME creation. Porphyrins allow bodies to make Hemoglobin – the substance that captures oxygen in human lungs. Porphyrins and make possible the Heme Biosynyesis Pathway, a transformative process that occurs mainly in bone marrow, which manufactures Hemoglobin.
Our efforts to defeat ASTRA begins and ends with Red Blood Cells – RBCs.
Red Blood Cells are Red because they have Iron in them. Hemoglobin in Red Blood Cells binds to and transports oxygen from the lungs to where it is needed – muscles, brain, etc. When a human body has reduced or compromised HEME it can’t hold on to oxygen and dies. HEME deficient people crave Red Blood because without it they’ll literally suffocate from lack of oxygen. They’ll take healthy Red Blood Cells any way they can – by sucking them out of their victim’s jugular veins or by cannibalism.
In Katya’s Blood we isolated a chemical On/Off switch for HEME production: Hybrid Neuro and Antimicrobic Peptides. We now search for an Antidote.
The Good News is – An Antidote for ASTRA will enable humans to rescue and bootstrap their HEME production and live another day. The Bad News is – it will ensure that Vampyres have a continued crop of human food for dinner. All we will have accomplished is ensuring the survival of humanity so it can keep fighting – and losing its blood to – the Vampyre nemesis. We solve one problem – but remain at risk for another. Vampyre HEME is so deficient these days that they can barely carry enough oxygen to their blood cells to function at all – the HEME that keeps them alive comes from Human beings. They need our oxygenated blood because theirs is so poor. And they need it frequently.
What if Katya’s On/Off switch antidote works on Vampire HEME to kick it into high gear?
CRITICAL FACT: We must confront a serious question: What effect will an ASTRA Antidote have on Vampyres? What if – in curing ourselves against ASTRA, we provide a tonic to make Vampyres’ deficient HEME stronger? Are we shooting ourselves in the foot here? Can our Antidote to ASTRA invigorate these Demons’ deficient HEME? Is the Rule of Unintended Consequences coming to bite us in the ass?
My suggestion is this: before we administer our soon-to-be-developed ASTRA Antidote to humans – we test it on a live Vampyre in a cage and study its effect on Vampyre blood. Of course, after we complete our scientific tests – decapitate the accursed thing and burn its remains.

“Doctor Borchert’s suggestion is indeed prescient and legitimate. Our team of captive scientists in Zurich are – allegedly – making progress reverse-engineering ASTRA’s development protocols. In my opinion, however, their rosy reports are overstated because they’re petrified we’ll unleash Vampyres on them. Any Antidote, unfortunately, is miles away.
Our best option at this juncture is to find Aleah al Sacrede. We must find him and whatever cache he has of aerosolized ASTRA for distribution from aircraft. We need his D-Day payload of doom.
I am aware that our dogged law enforcement contingent – Heinlein and Leeds – in New Jersey are coming up flat bust in their search. They need help. To this end, I have agreed to their joining forces with the American CIA and NSA. Simply put: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. BratvaVarang ops cannot operate with the reckless abandon that the United States National Security agencies can inside the USA. We simply do not have the time to waste setting up our own operations crews and surveillance infrastructure. We need what the USA already has up and running – and we need it NOW.
I ask Detective Heinlein and Sargeant Leeds to work with NSA Senior Agent Jack Tenerife in the United States and act as “Point Men” in searching for and apprehending Aleah al Sacrede together with his supplies of ASTRA awaiting aerosolization.
BratvaVarangCommand has hammered out this joint task force agreement with the NSA and CIA. NSA Senior Agent Jack Tenerife – despite our unpleasantness in Jersey City the other day – has given assurances that he will offer Heinlein and Leeds every support and assistance in this mission. His bread is buttered on the same side of the loaf as ours, at least for the time being.
Of course, I can also say that we have significant “Compromat” – compromising information – on Tenerife; his personal history is less than savory – and we can use this leverage to our advantage. If what we have on him is revealed, he could face a United States Department of Justice and US Military firing squad.
Heinlein and Leeds will have authority to manage Tenerife’s NSA investigation. Of course, trusting them is going to be another matter. I suggest that we keep in close contact and confer regularly before being too transparent with our American friends. I ask that you both report to the NSA Operations Center in US Joint Military Base McGuire in New Jersey and get this all going. Watch your backs. I have contacts in US National Security circles – but we still must tread carefully. There’s always been a CIA – Vampyre coziness that I could never penetrate.
Of course, BratvaVarang Command Operations have their own contacts inside the US National Security Agencies and will also be monitoring their activities in discrete ways. If any red flags present themselves, our BratvaVarang brothers will get us warning.
